Melbourne International Postgraduate Research Scholarships,

The International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) is funded by the Australian Government and enables international students to undertake a postgraduate research qualification in Australia and gain experience with leading Australian researchers.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Overseas Student Health Cover for you and your dependants, if they join you in Australia on a student visa
  • A fortnightly living allowance
  • Relocation grant for students moving to Melbourne from interstate or from outside Australia

  • Limited paid sick, maternity and parenting leave

Deadline

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must…

  • Be an international applicant (ie. a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand, and not an Australian permanent resident) and meet international student visa requirements;
  • Have completed tertiary studies that are at least equivalent to a 4-year honours degree at an Australian university with a minimum result of first class honours;
  • Have applied for admission to undertake masters by research or doctorate by research degree at the University of Melbourne;
  • Not be enrolled in the course for which you seek scholarship;
  • Have not already completed a research qualification at the same or higher level as the course for which a scholarship is sought.

Guidelines

To apply for Melbourne International Postgraduate Research Scholarships, you’re required to note the following:

  1. If you have applied for a Melbourne Research Scholarship, you will be automatically considered for the Australian Postgraduate Award.
  2. The Postgraduate Research Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit. Eligible applicants are scored and ranked according to their:
  • academic achievement in their last completed degree; and
  • research potential in their field of study, taking into consideration factors relevant to the proposed research including professional experience, refereed publications, specialist medical qualifications or composition of original music.
